The projectMasarang has founded a woodworking institute, in cooperation with the local church. Officially it has the status of a technical school, but it also creates many new jobs. Here, wood scraps and sugar palm fibers, among other things, are made into furniture, flooring, souvenirs, summer-houses and roofing materials. In the past, wood from sugar palms was mostly used for firewood, but it can be used far more productively, whereby farmers who fell the trees at the end of their lifecycle receive a higher price for the wood. The woodworking institute provides education for people who want to learn the woodworking trade. Cooperation with the Rhode Island School of Design in the U.S. has also been set up to investigate whether a new line of furniture can be produced. The institute is also working on developing new products with the potential for worldwide distribution.

Plans and needs - Our highest priority is to improve the workspace, to provide adequate lighting and a clean and safe work environment
- A proper exhaust system is also badly needed, to remove dust caused by the production process
- New hand tools and small machinery for making souvenirs and jewelry
- An air compression installation network, running through the entire workspace so that all the machinery can be used in the proper manner
